In the wake of COVID-driven shakeups, much of the U.S. workforce is reevaluating what they need and want from work, and library staff are no exception. Increasingly library workers are sharing their trauma, burnout, and low morale on-the-job experiences and asking for more and different policies and support structures from their libraries to support their work and mental health. Moderator Meredith Schwartz, Editor-in-Chief of Library Journal, will be joined by a representative from frontline worker-focused Urban Librarians Unite, who will share the top line findings of the organization’s IMLS-funded study on urban library workers’ trauma in the workplace, including takeaways that can apply to rural and suburban libraries as well. Amanda Leftwich, Student Success Librarian at Montgomery County Community College, founder of mindfulinlis, and co-creator of LibVoices, will share her advice on how to prevent and reduce burnout.

Project ReShare is a collaboration between consortia, libraries, and vendors to build a community-owned, standards based platform for library resource sharing. The initial roll-out in 2021 focused on consortial lending of print materials, but current work includes both document delivery and controlled digital lending.

This session will highlight the impact that a collaborative effort between Niche Academy and SirsiDynix has had for both patrons and staff. Essential instruction becomes available at the point of need in a way that improves the library experience and drives the usage of library resources.

Librarian Recommends: Lists is a new enrichment in Syndetics Unbound, free to subscribers, that allows librarians to curate lists within the catalog, showcasing topics, genres, staff picks, and more. Lists can also be showcased outside the catalog, on library or catalog homepages and are shareable among Syndetics Unbound libraries so that patrons can benefit from the knowledge of librarians around the world.

SirsiDynix and CCC have expanded their long-standing partnership by integrating CCC’s Get It Now article delivery service within CloudSource+ empowering libraries to start using OA resources to save money on subscriptions and increase access to high-quality content. The CloudSource+ content platform leverages the global body of open content surfacing 50M open access articles and nearly 2M open educational resources (OER), along with library subscribed content. For low-use, no-use, or databases with a high OA overlap, Get It Now provides a cost-effective, on-demand alternative for one-off access to articles. Together, they provide a powerful content discovery solution for academic libraries that helps eliminate content “dead-ends” to the delight of library patrons.

This session is intended to provide an introduction to IMMS (Intelligent Material Management System) – this highly innovative and game-changing SaaS application that will soon integrate in real time with Symphony. The session will provide attendees with an overview of some of the key concepts of the application including paperless holds, exhibition management, floating collections, and chaotic storage. An update will also be provided on the progress of the integration between Symphony and IMMS.
