Making the Case for Intellectual Freedom

Book bans and challenges to programs, displays, and other resources are on the rise across the U.S. Libraries are understandably anxious about defending against bans and challenges, but intellectual freedom is a core, foundational value of libraries. We must be able to explain and promote intellectual freedom to our staff, our patrons, and our communities. In this presentation, you’ll learn about the philosophical basis of intellectual freedom, the reasons to support it in your community, and how to stand tall in the face of adversity.
