The Middleman: Community-led Open Infrastructures and Diversifying the Research Landscape

We often hear a lot about what publishers are doing when it comes to open access (OA), or the latest OA business models on the market, yet another important part of the open science mission, infrastructures services, are often overlooked. In this session, we’ll take a look at what open infrastructures are (and the meaning of ‘community-led’), where they place in the research life cycle, why they need supporting, and how they are working to achieve a more equitable and open research environment, through the lense of OA books and infrastructures, as well as identifying some key examples of infrastructures at work in this landscape.
